Food education at our university was first established in 1983 under the name of "Agricultural Products Technology Department" within the Faculty of Agriculture and started undergraduate education in 1984 with 4 faculty members and 32 students.

In 1987, due to a change in the program name, it continued its educational activities as the “Department of Food Science and Technology.”
In 1995, it continued its education with a new program titled “Food Engineering.” Graduates were given from this department until 2001.
In 1992, the Department of Food Engineering was established within the Faculty of Engineering.
In 1999, the Department of Food Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering became operational with the appointment of 2 faculty members.
In 2002, the Department of Food Engineering of the Faculty of Agriculture was transferred to the Faculty of Engineering.

The Department of Food Engineering, which carried out education, training, and research activities within the Faculty of Agriculture from 1983 to 2002, has been operating within the Faculty of Engineering since 2002. In the 2024–2025 Academic Year, our department provides undergraduate education to 193 students and postgraduate education to 51 Master’s and 18 PhD students with 14 Faculty Members, 4 Research Assistants, and 1 Lecturer.
